Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia / Projects / Religious Structures Inventory and Digest

Religious Structures Inventory and Digest

The Places of Worship Committee is currently involved in the development of a religious building inventory and digest for the Trust and the people of the province. While the inventory may include any religious structure, our primary focus is to identify and assist in preservation and reuse of those at risk.

The inventory will consist of a map showing religious structures. The map symbols (icons) may be opened to gain more information about the structure, including a summary written assessment and a photograph. Construction of the map will involve community and church group participation. The map will be accessible through the HTNS web site.

The digest portion of the project will provide examples of creative religious building reuse and discuss various aspects of approaches and means of gaining new life for religious structures that have lost their original function.
