Recognizing Excellence in Conservation

The Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia Awards recognize and honour outstanding heritage conservation projects and individuals who have demonstrated themselves to be champions of built heritage conservation.

The Built Heritage Awards are awarded to projects in the following categories: Commercial, Conservation by Means of Adaptive Resuse, Institutional, Places of Worship and Residential, and an award in Excellence in Supporting Heritage Conservation is awarded to individuals. The awards in the Commercial, Institutional, Places of Worship and Residential categories recognize exceptional renovation and restoration projects in their respective contexts. While the Conservation by Means of Adaptive Reuse Award specifically recognizes best-practice examples of the sensitive adaptation of heritage buildings to accommodate new uses, while carefully conserving their character-defining elements.

The Award for Excellence in Supporting Heritage Conservation recognizes the hard work and dedication of an individual to heritage conservation by way of increasing public awareness of and support for heritage resources, achievement in heritage resource planning and management, or exemplary volunteer commitment.

Award winners are honoured at an annual event in the summer and projects are profiled on our website, social media and in our newsletter The Griffin.
